English Translation
The fiscal deficit during April- December stood at Rs2,18,262 crore on the back of expenditure on social scheme as well as the stimulus packages by the government. This figure is one-and-half times more than what was estimated in the budget for the whole year. Besides this, the revenue deficit rose to over Rs 1,73,830 crore, which is 315 per cent of the budget estimate of Rs 55,184 crore. In the first three quarters, the total expenditure of the government was Rs 5,97,216 crore or 79.5 per cent of the expenditure planned for the full fiscal, as compared to the corresponding year figure of 69.7 per cent.

SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd is in the process of expanding its presence in Kerala. The company has garnered a new business premium of over Rs 250 crore from the State as on December 2008. However, it has plans to more than double the same by the end of this fiscal. The company in the State has 31 branches. Further, market across the globe retreated on the back of weak global economic data. The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was positive. On BSE, out of 2,253 stocks traded so far, 1,120 shares advanced while 1,011 shares declined. Nearly 122 shares are unchanged. The BSE Sensex is trading higher by 105.90 points at 9,342.19 and NSE Nifty is up by 28.69 points at 2,852.65. The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 17.75 points at 2,921.19 and Small cap is trading up by 15.67 points at 3,319.09.
