The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Deputy Governor Subir Gokarn on September 7, ruled out any immediate intervention in the foreign exchange market by saying it will do so if there is any pressure on the system. Gokarn said, 'the Reserve Bank will consider intervention in the foreign exchange market if pressure on the exchange rate is too high.’
In a response to the query on huge fall in Swiss franc, and resultant volatility in the Indian money marker, he said ‘our view on the exchange rate management is essentially the same। We are looking to not target the exchange rate. If there is pressure of any kind that disrupts the real sector we would consider intervention.
