RSS 4 increased to Rs 139 a kg from Rs 137 a kg as covering groups turned extremely aggressive on the grade. Major manufacturers were purchasers on sheet rubber up to Rs 138 a kg but they failed to procure the raw material as traders were unwilling to sell the stock at lower levels.

Mutual funds (MFs) sold shares worth a net Rs 485.30 crore on 24 July 2008 compared to their buying of Rs 334.50 crore on Wednesday, 23 July 2008. Serial Blasts Rock Bangalore

A woman was killed and at least six people were injured in a series of six low-intensity blasts carried out in eastern parts of the information technology capital this afternoon.

The woman, who was waiting at a bus shelter in Madivala on the Bangalore-Hosur road, was killed in the blast and her husband and another person were seriously injured, police said.

Bangalore was rocked by a major terrorist attack in December, 2005 when extremists opened fire in the famous Indian Institute of Science complex in which a Delhi IIT professor lost his life.

There were also blasts in other areas like Panthrapalya, Audugodi and Vittal Mallya Road within minutes of each other from the first blast at around 1330 hours.

Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari appealed to the people of the city to maintain calm and carry on with their normal life as police have been put on alert throughout the city.

He said timer device has been used in some of the blasts and explosives in quantity equivalent to one or two hand grenades have been used in some others.

Bidari termed it as an "act of miscreants" trying to disturb peace in Bangalore and appeared pre-planned. "We will get to the criminals and arrest them," he said.

Bomb disposal squads and forensic experts have rushed to the spot for investigations.

San Francisco: Internet search leader Google has signed a letter of intent with Digg to purchase the social news site for around $200 million, the influential technology blog TechCrunch reported Tuesday.

The report said the deal would be finalized within two weeks and that Digg would continue to operate as part of the Google News operation, which already runs one of the most popular news sites on the web.

In contrast to Google News, where the stories are selected by computer algorithm, Digg's news stories are submitted by users and ranked according to user approval ratings. The report said that Google was interested in using Digg's technology to help improve its search results by having users vote on their quality.

Digg was formed in 2004 by entrepreneur Kevin Rose who used a programmer he found online for $10 an hour, which is now ranked as one of the 100 most trafficked sites on the internet.

The output in South Indian gardens was increased by 13.6 per cent at 97.4 mkg (85.7 mkg) and in North Indian gardens by 1.6 per cent at 142.9 mkg (140.7 mkg). During the same period, the output in Kenya fell by 21.5 per cent at 134.6 mkg (171.5 mkg). But output in Sri Lanka was increased by 20 per cent at 144 mkg (122 mkg) and in Bangladesh by 3.1 per cent at 10.3 mkg (10 mkg). The figures available till March suggest that the production in Zimbabwe fell by 34.8 per cent at 4.5 mkg (6.9 mkg), Uganda by 32.2 per cent at 6.3 mkg (9.3 mkg) and Tanzania by 10.1 per cent at 10.7 mkg (11.9 mkg). Kolkata: A $2 million export order for supplying teas from North Bengal to Russia was inked here on July 10. The first delivery in July will be shipped by K B Tea Pvt Ltd and subsequently by North Bengal UFA Export Pvt Ltd. With this, shipments of Darjeeling orthodox and CTC teas from Dooars and Terai regions of West Bengal will resume after about 10 years.

Principal PNB -Fixed Maturity Plan -385 days - Series VIII is a close-ended debt scheme with an objective to build an income-oriented portfolio and provide returns along with regular liquidity to the investor. The Scheme will invest in a diversified portfolio of debt, money market securities and Government Securities from time to time.
