Wipro, HUL Rally; Sensex, Nifty Come Off Lower Levels @ 13:51 Hrs

Thanks to sustained buying interest, HDFC (up 5.4% at Rs 2332.50), Wipro (up 4.55% at Rs 393.60), ICICI Bank (up 375% at Rs 795), Hindustan Unilever (up 3.5% at Rs 233.10) and HDFC Bank (up 3% at Rs 1307.50) remain high up in the positive territory this afternoon.

Automobile majors Tata Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki are up by over 2%. Tata Consultancy Services, Bharti Airtel, ITC, ACC, State Bank of India, Infosys Technologies and Ambuja Cements are up by 1% - 2%. Larsen & Toubro, ONGC and Satyam Computer Services are also up with smart gains. Grasim Industries is up marginally at Rs 2600.10.

IndusInd Bank, which touched a high of Rs 77.20 earlier in the day, has slipped to Rs 73.90, but still remains the top gainer among BSE 'A' Group stocks. At its current price, the stock is up by a little over 6%. Sintex Industries, HCL Technologies and United Phosphorus are up by over 5%.

Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Nalco, Max India, Punjab National Bank, Centurion Bank of Punjab, India Infoline, Idea Cellular, Gammon India, BPCL and HDIL are among the other prominent gainers in the group.

Reliance Energy (down 6.75% at Rs 1125) remain the most prominent loser in the Sensex. Tata Steel (down 6.55% at Rs 595.45) is also down with a sharp loss. DLF and Jaiprakash Associates have lost 3.4% and 3.15% respectively. Hindalco has suffered a loss of 1.7%. Ranbaxy Laboratories, ONGC, Reliance Industries and Reliance Communications trail their previous closing prices by 0.25% - 1%.

The Sensex, which dropped down to 15,056.09 following a strong round of selling in front line stocks earlier this afternoon, has edged up to 15,163.83 (up 169 points or 1.13%) now. The Nifty, which had slipped to 4552.10 earlier this afternoon, has edged up to 4578.70, netting a small gain of 4.75 points.
